Where to base yourself
- District V, the inner cityParliament, the river promenade and the main shopping streets. The simplest base for a first visit with good transport links.
- Buda Castle and District ICobbled lanes, the castle funicular and river views from the terrace. Choose it for quiet nights and a residential pace.
- District VII (the Jewish quarter)Ruin bars, synagogues and dense restaurants around the old ghetto. Good for evenings, though noisier on weekends.

- Day 1Cross the Chain Bridge, walk the Danube promenade and take the evening river cruise when the parliament is lit.
- Day 2Spend the morning at the Széchenyi baths, then the afternoon on the castle hill and the hospital-in-the-rock museum.

- Keep your bag closed on tram 2, the most crowded tourist line in the city.
