Where to base yourself
- Kato Paphos and the harbourThe archaeological park, tombs of the kings and the boat-filled harbour within a flat walk. The right base for a first visit.
- Universal and the upper townQuieter residential streets above the harbour with restaurants, bakery terraces and better value rooms.
- Coral Bay and the Akamas edgeLong sand to the north and lagoon walks to the west. Choose it if swimming and nature outrank evening bustle.

- Day 1Walk the harbour and the Roman mosaics early, then let the afternoon go to swimming and a slow fish dinner.
- Day 2Drive or join a trip to the Akamas for the Aphrodite spring and a short gorge walk, stopping at Lara Bay on the way back.
- Day 3Spend the morning at Coral Bay, the afternoon at the tombs of the kings, and keep the sunset harbour hour unplanned.

Tips before you go
- Drive on the left; Cyprus kept British road rules and many hire cars are right-hand drive.
- Book one restaurant evening in the harbour ahead in July and August.
- Bring water shoes for the pebbly entries at many of the best coves.
- Check which side of the airport you need; Paphos serves the west and Limassol is about an hour away.
Common questions
- Do we need a hire car?
- Useful for Akamas, Lara Bay and the inland villages, but buses and taxis cover the harbour, beaches and Kato Paphos well enough for a short stay.
- Is Paphos good for young children?
- Yes. The bays are shallow and sheltered, distances are short and most hotels have family pools away from the beach heat.
